The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee announced Monday that a veteran of recent successes in Virginia will be leading the group’s field program this year.

Lauren Brainerd, who was most recently the campaign director for the Virginia Democratic Party, will be the DSCC’s new field director, according to an announcement shared first with Roll Call. Brainerd oversaw last year’s campaigns for statewide office in the Old Dominion, including the gubernatorial race. She also oversaw campaigns for the state House of Delegates, where victories (the party won 15 seats) signaled Democratic energy heading into the 2018 midterms.

“As Senate Democrats look to capitalize on our strong grassroots support and mobilize voters against the Republican agenda that is making life more expensive for the middle class, there is no better individual to harness this energy than Lauren,” DSCC Chairman Chris Van Hollen said in a statement.

As field director, Brainerd will support the efforts of Democratic campaigns to build field programs and bolster their get-out-the-vote efforts.

Before joining the Virginia Democrats, Brainerd was the campaign coordinated director for the Florida Democratic Party in 2016. According to the DSCC, she oversaw 625 staffers in Florida and the party registered 225,000 voters. Brainerd also worked as a regional organizing director for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

“Lauren’s vast experience in organizing and grassroots campaigning will be invaluable to us as we work to elect Senate Democrats,” Van Hollen said.
