Ammar Campa-Najjar doesn’t want hate and bigotry to be a distraction this time.

The 30-year-old Democrat narrowly lost a campaign for the historically conservative 50th District in California last year. Now Campa-Najjar is seeking a rematch, and has renewed his demands that Republican Rep. Duncan Hunter be held accountable for anti-Muslim rhetoric.

Two House Republicans under federal indictments are heading back to Congress. Voters in California and New York are sending Reps. Duncan Hunter and Chris Collins back to Capitol Hill even as they face federal charges.

Hunter and his wife, Margaret, were indicted by a federal grand jury in late August for allegedly using $250,000 in campaign funds for personal expenses and covering their tracks in campaign finance filings to the Federal Election Commission. The couple is facing 60 federal charges.

California Republican Rep. Duncan Hunter, imperiled by an indictment over campaign finance law allegations, has circulated a letter in the final weeks of his re-election campaign — signed by three retired generals — asserting his opponent presents a national security risk.

After appearing to put the blame on his wife last week, indicted California Republican Rep. Duncan Hunter said Tuesday he wants prosecutors to leave her out of the ongoing legal fight.

Hunter told the 10News, the San Diego ABC affiliate, that he wants investigators to focus on him.

A new poll shows embattled Rep. Duncan Hunter leading the race for California’s 50th District after he was indicted on campaign fund violations.

The poll by Survey USA for the San Diego Union-Tribune released Monday showed Hunter had an 9-point lead against his Democratic opponent, former Obama administration official Ammar Campa-Najjar.
