On Nuclear Option, McConnell in 2017 Sounds a Lot Like Reid in 2013


When Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell deployed the “nuclear option” on Supreme Court nominees Thursday morning, his rhetoric may have sounded a little familiar. That’s because he covered many of the same points as then-Majority Leader Harry Reid in 2013 when the Nevada Democrat eliminated the filibuster on all other federal nominations, setting the precedent for Thursday’s action.
